“Adventuresomeness is not irresponsibility or vagabondage….It is a zest for living and learning,
a constructive discontent and restlessness, an impatient desire to grow.”

G. Howland Smith, speaking about the Foreign Service, 1930

I was a newspaper columnist, feature writer, and teacher for many years, which suggests I am interested in intriguing stories, and Imbrie's qualifies. Robert Imbrie was the first U.S. foreign service officer to be assassinated. His biography—and mine is the first--helps us understand much of what is happening today in the Middle East and beyond. I do not have a publication date yet but will soon. Meanwhile my blog will treat subjects not included in the book, providing additional background.
